About Us

Background

Farming has been a way of life for the Fyk Family for generations. Since 1904, when our families’ ancestors first arrived in Canada, they have cultivated the land, growing various cash crops including buckwheat. Today, we continue this legacy with my brother, Ben, and our daughter, Anastasia, in the Municipality of Ethelbert, located on Treaty 2 Territory, which is owned by the Anishinaabe (Chippewa and Cree).

History

Fyk Soba Inc. was incorporated in Manitoba by Don and Ben Fyk in 2009. Fyk Soba supplies the production of premium buckwheat used in the creation of Japanese Soba noodles. Most of the varieties developed in Canada were done so primarily for the Japanese Soba noodle market. Moving forward, we have expanded to the Canadian market of whole groats, morning cereal, kasha (roasted groats), and flour, both white and whole.

Who We Are

Operations are headquartered in Garland, Manitoba. The pristine farmland and favourable climate in the area are considered ideal for the growth of buckwheat. To ensure the highest standards in food safety and quality. Fyk Soba has adopted various technologies and handling procedures for its clients and consumers. Fyk Soba holds the following certifications. Safe Food For Canadians. (SFFC). (HACCP), (Manitoba Health), (CFIA), and an Environmental Licence from the Province of Manitoba. We exclusively do buckwheat and buckwheat products.

Partnership

We are producers as well as contractors for buckwheat primarily in Western Canada. We have growers in three prairie provinces and well as calls from Ontario. We exclusively contract raw product for “The Birkett Mills” of Penn Yan, New York. Email kgifford@thebirkettmills.com 

We also have a sister company called Brothers Milling located in Headingly Manitoba. Email  tes@brothersmilling.com.  They are our distributors of all products including flour.
